The Nobody

The painting commissioned for my first book cover hangs in my office. I had to jump through hoops to discover and contact the artist, but I’m glad I did, and that she was willing to sell me the painting. It’s a wonderful souvenir of a truly amazing moment in my life — seeing the cover of my very first book, holding it in my hands, and realizing my dream was coming true. Corny, I know — but romance authors are sentimental souls!
The Nobody took three years to write. I didn't know how to write a novel, and if anyone had told me before I began it how much work it was going to be, I never would have started. But I did start, and eventually I finished, and -- much to my surprise -- the little book I began for my own amusement, amused others. So Signet bought it and published it and -- much to everyone's surprise -- it exceeded expectations. They had to send it back for a second printing. And it was a double RITA finalist: Best Regency, and Best First Book. (Since they published my second book that same year, and it also was a RITA finalist, that was a pretty exciting year for me.)
And just a few months ago, Signet reissued The Nobody in e-book form for the first time, as part of their new "Intermix" line: The Nobody
The story is a Cinderella tale about an obscure girl with neither money nor connections, who meets her destiny in a dark London street …
